Why I Left Cursor for Antigravity in Personal Projects (And How It Saves Me Money)
A Small Disclaimer Before We Begin
I want to put this on the table – I am a heavy user of Cursor. In my eyes, as of today, it is the best tool on the market for software development (IDE). In my daily work, I don't see myself without it.
But, for home projects? I prefer Antigravity.
The "Subscription for Everything" Problem
Like many of you, I reached a state of "Subscription Fatigue". I have a subscription to ChatGPT, a subscription to Gemini, Netflix, Spotify... The list never ends.
When I looked at my monthly charges, I realized something: Paying an additional $20 a month for Cursor just for projects I write at home, mostly on weekends? It's simply Overkill.
Meet Antigravity
Here enters Google Antigravity. For those who don't know or haven't followed the latest updates, Google decided to break the market with a particularly aggressive pricing model designed exactly for people like us.
The reason I switched to it at home is simple: Their Free Tier is simply illogical.
While Cursor requires a fixed monthly payment to get the truly good features (and ultimately limits you to $20 usage), Antigravity offers weekly renewable access (not monthly like Cursor) to the strongest models available today.
Why Does It Fit Side Projects perfectly?
My work style at home is usually "sprints" on weekends. I don't write code every evening.
Google's model allows me to get access to models that cost a fortune, exactly when I need them (weekly), and for free:
- Access to Claude Opus 4.5: The smartest and most "expensive" model on the market right now.
- Access to Gemini 3 Pro: Google's monster.
Instead of paying a fixed monthly "fine", I get a crazy toolbox that regenerates every week. For Side Projects, learning, or just playing at home.
The Bottom Line
If you are a full-time developer who needs a strong daily work tool – stick with Cursor. It's amazing.
But, if you are looking to save those $240 a year and still want to enjoy the newest models (like Opus 4.5) in your personal projects – give Antigravity a chance. Your pocket will thank you.
